Sleeping with the Enemy

I know, that’s a very successful 1991 Julia Roberts film about a young woman escaping an abusive marriage. I saw it and loved it too.

No, I’m talking about President Trump, VP J.D. Vance, and all the MAGA sycophants who embarrassed the United States last Friday by staging a diplomatic ambush against Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine. You can watch this bushwhacking by clicking on this YouTube video.

“What we witnessed last Friday (February 28, 2025) was our national government, led by Trump, Vance, and Musk, sleeping with the enemy—a total capitulation to Russia.”

So Who is the Enemy?

The enemy in these modern times would be those countries that have nuclear weapons aimed at us and programmed to destroy the United States.

As of today, nine nations have developed nuclear weapons, including A-bombs and H-bombs. These countries are:

United States of America
The United States developed the first nuclear weapons and currently has about 5,400 warheads, with 1,584 warheads deployed in ICBM silos, ballistic missile submarines, and stand-off cruise missiles.

Russia
The Russian Republic has 6,000 warheads, with about 1,744 deployed in silos, train cars, cruise missiles, and ballistic missile submarines. Their weapons are programmed to target and destroy the United States.

China
The Chinese PLA has about 500 warheads, mostly deployed in silos with missiles capable of reaching the United States. They are also developing ballistic missile submarines. Obviously, their weapons are programmed to destroy the USA.

France
The French have about 290 warheads, deployed principally on ballistic missile submarines. As our oldest ally, it’s fair to say that they don’t threaten the United States.

United Kingdom
The British have 260 warheads, with about 40 deployed on ballistic missile submarines. Like the French, it’s fair to assume that none of these missiles are aimed at us.

Pakistan
Pakistan has developed about 170 warheads, but the number deployed is secret. Their delivery systems are intermediate-range missiles (IRBMs) capable of reaching their enemies, India and China. They don’t pose a threat to the United States.

India
India has about 160 warheads, and their delivery systems are intermediate-range missiles (IRBMs) capable of reaching their enemies, Pakistan and China. They don’t pose a threat to the United States.

Israel
Israel has never admitted to possessing nuclear weapons, but it is assumed that they have about 100 warheads with IRBMs capable of reaching Syria, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Libya. Since we are their major benefactor, they present no danger to the United States.

North Korea
North Korea has produced about 40 warheads and is attempting to develop a missile capable of reaching the west coast of the US. So far, they have not demonstrated an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of hitting the United States, but they’re trying hard.

So who is the enemy? Based on the above list, Russia and China qualify as enemies since they have nukes aimed at us, programmed to destroy our country.

Resisting Dictators Who Want To Rule the World

My name is James P. Lynch III.

My uncle, James P. Lynch II, was enrolled at Holy Cross when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He promptly left college and joined the Navy, becoming a radio operator on a landing craft. His ship was in the second wave that attacked the beaches at Normandy. They had to motor right up to the beach and drop the ramp for the troops to go ashore, into German machine gun fire and artillery.

Fortunately, my Uncle Jim survived D-Day and the war, returned to Boston to get a law degree, became the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, and taught the “Courtroom Etiquette” course at Harvard for 25 years.

So, why did James Lynch II risk his life on D-Day? He and his fellow soldiers were trying to stop a mass-murdering madman, Adolf Hitler, from conquering and subjugating the entire Western world, abetted by an equally fanatical Japanese empire.

A New Hitler

At the close of World War II, Ukraine was one of the original signers of the United Nations Charter, establishing itself as an independent nation on October 24, 1945.

Russia, angered that Ukraine had ousted its pro-Russian President, Viktor Yanukovych, invaded the Crimea peninsula in late February 2014. The whole operation was typical of Russian deception: the invading troops were disguised, quickly taking control of Crimea, running a sham referendum, and claiming that Crimea is now Russian territory. This was rejected by nearly everybody in the United Nations, including the United States.

The war that followed has been exceptionally brutal. For example, the Russian military would attack a Ukrainian hospital with missiles, wait 30 minutes for emergency first responders to arrive, then hit it again, hoping to kill the first aid workers. Sound like Hitler?

Vladimir Putin has made it clear that he intends to restore Russia to its former glory, with Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Georgia, and others under its dominance and military control. Oh, he won’t do that, you say? He already has (speak to any Ukrainian).

Birds of a Feather

Adolf Hitler Vladimir Putin

Benedict Arnold

Benedict Arnold was a colorful businessman and military officer during the American Revolution. Having the trust of General George Washington, Arnold was eventually appointed to guard West Point on the Hudson River, about 40 miles north of New York City. The base had a 65-ton iron chain preventing British warships from moving up the Hudson.

Arnold’s second wife, Peggy Shippen, was a Loyalist connected to Major John André, who was in charge of British espionage in the colonies. The British offered Benedict Arnold 20,000 pounds (3 million pounds in today’s money) to give up the base and defect to England. Unfortunately, Major André was caught with the papers outlining the plot and quickly hanged. Benedict Arnold did manage to escape with his family and lived out his life as a hero to some and despised by many.

So what made Arnold commit such an act of treason? The answer is a combination of kompromat (a wife working behind the scenes for the British) and bribery (20,000 pounds sterling).

Donald Trump – Our New Benedict Arnold

Donald Trump 45th and 47th President of the United States

Why did Donald Trump betray all our allies and throw his support to the second coming of Adolf Hitler, President Vladimir Putin of Russia?

As I have been discreetly suggesting, it’s probably a combination of two things: bribery and compromat.

Bribery?
That’s easy. His son, Don Jr., stated a few years ago that “We get most of our money from Russia.” This Trump family acceptance of bribes has shot to the moon since the election. Just this week, Trump announced a Gold Card for $5 million to enable wealthy people to get a green card and a path to citizenship. All the Silicon Valley tech bros who donated millions to his campaign (which is over) knew that this money would go directly to the Trump family. We don’t know exactly how big Elon Musk’s contributions to the Trump family are, but I suspect they’re a king’s ransom.

Kompromat?
Before becoming president, Trump purchased control of the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants. Reports from contestants in these pageants about Trump’s behavior are creepy and disturbing. One of the Miss Universe pageants was staged in Russia. Did the Russians bug his hotel room with cameras and microphones, then send in prostitutes to engage in some kinky hijinks?

Of course they did! There have been rumors for years about a “pee tape,” reported by former British spy Christopher Steele.

What Can Be Done

Sadly, the answer is absolutely nothing. Trump barely won, but he’s in power for four more years, and the Republican Party is afraid of standing up to him. The Democratic Party hasn’t a clue how to handle opponents who will do anything and spend any amount to win.

As John Fogerty of the 1990 band Creedence Clearwater Revival said in one of his most famous songs…

“There’s a Bad Moon on the Rise”
